Stichting Internationaal Orgelconcours is registered at the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce, no. 41223348.
The festival was founded on the initiative of the City of Haarlem in order to involve the Müller organ in the Holland Festival. The first International Improvisation Competition took place in 1951, the International Summer Academy in 1955. Since 1986, the festival has taken place biennially during the month of July. The 51st festival will be held in 2016.
The festival is supported financially by the Haarlem City Council.
